The History of La Caille

La Caille was originally known as Quail Run, a weekend-only eatery in 1971. It was a popular local establishment even before the growing development in the area. La Caille first opened its doors in 1975 to the accolades of the fine dining community in the Salt Lake City area. Its innovative take on French cuisine made it the top destination for culinary arts enthusiasts across the Salt Lake Valley. The opening of La Caille put Utah on the fine dining map, and this history of excellence continues today.

During the last 40 years, La Caille has grown into a vibrant, 20-acre, five-star dining and event resort, specializing in authentic French cuisine and host to a plethora of special occasions year-round from weddings and family reunions to business conferences and luncheons.

The long-standing, family-centric restaurant continues to amaze all its guests with breath-taking views of the surrounding Wasatch Mountain range and 20 acres of lush green pastures where peacocks strut their majestic wings, swans gracefully swim in one of the glistening ponds on the property and baby ducks can be found frolicking behind their mothers in the early spring months. La Caille now stands regally among is neighboring communities with a newly renovated kitchen, a Seyval Blanc vineyard stretching across three acres with special irrigation and trellising, and an organic garden continuously replenishing the delectable meals served in the chateau.

For the past 20 years, La Caille has been awarded with the AAA Travel’s “Four Diamond” restaurant rating. This is attributed partially to the original chateau standing gracefully in the midst of the lavish gardens, forest and vineyard, but even more so to the unique historical setting captured throughout the entire restaurant from the original tiling on the floors and ceilings to the many authentic French paintings decorating the spiral stairs, three stories high. The restaurant features four classically ornamented dining rooms, five open patios and the Grand Pavilion, accommodating 300 guests for dining and events. La Caille’s longevity can also be attributed to the luscious, seasonally prepared menus offered by world re-known chefs and a specially trained team of assistants using local, organic farm-fresh food.

While ownership of La Caille has changed hands several times over the past 40 years, the staff maintains a family-centric atmosphere in their devotion to the continued success of the restaurant and meeting the expectations of all their patrons. Wendy Caron, the Director of Marketing at La Caille, described her reflection of the celebration of La Caille’s revitalization as “a magical place with unlimited potential.”

La Caille has a long history in the Salt Lake Valley, most memorable for its fine dining and authentic French cuisine. The chateau is home to thousands of special memories shared over the last 40 years as the premier wedding and reception venue nestled at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. The history continues with each time a guest drives under the colorful trellis of blooming flowers onto the semi-private, curving, red-brick lane adorned by lush forest and fresh, mountain-water streams; pulls up to the French chateau; is graciously greeted by a finely-dressed valet and well-mannered colorful peacocks. The experience continues awakening all your senses whether you are here to enjoy dinner, appetizers, apres-ski, share your wedding vows with your loved ones or enjoy a special luncheon under the bright blue Utah sky. Each visit is a new memory, a new moment in time. And the rest is history.

La Caille Just got a Whole Lot Sweeter

La Caille is the premier French Restaurant in Salt Lake City and is proud to introduce Rebecca Millican as their new French pastry chef.  Rebecca was the Pastry Chef Instructor at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York City for 10 years. Prior to joining the faculty at ICE, Rebecca worked at the 4-star Ryland Inn in Whitehouse, NJ, L'Espinasse in New York and Park Pastries in Hoboken. In addition to chocolate work, her specialties include wedding cakes, candy making, and gingerbread houses.
She has had her work featured on television and in print. She has appeared on the Better Homes and Gardens television show, the Food Network, and Good Day New York. Her gingerbread houses and holiday specialties have also been featured in The New York Post and Country Living Gardener magazine. In 2005 Rebecca coached a team of students to a first place ribbon in the "Gingerbread on Broadway" competition held at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel. When Rebecca returned to Salt Lake City, she became an acclaimed chocolatier and continued to sharpen her pastry craft.

La Caille invested in a pastry chef because they value all courses of the meal. It has been Rebecca’s experience that in many establishments — even fine dining — the dessert is an afterthought. La Caille wants to give you the best experience from beginning to end. This impression includes lovely grounds, impeccable service, and of course a five-star dining experience.

Rebecca is excited to introduce desserts that complement the seasonal menu of La Caille. For the fall and winter season, Rebecca has created a delicious, tantalizing chocolate and caramel cake. The richness of the cake is perfectly balanced with a baked grapefruit infused with rosemary. The pumpkin gingerbread tiramisu has become the staff favorite. Other seasonal favorites will include peppermint and eggnog themed items. A twist on a traditional Buche De Noel is also expected to premier at La Caille this winter.

To celebrate the upcoming holiday season and the arrival of Rebecca, La Caille is hosting their third annual Lights On Celebration. You are invited to visit La Caille and stroll the grounds trimmed  in holiday sparkling lights. During the celebration, guests are invited to sip hot chocolate and taste Rebecca’s famous homemade marshmallows and cookies.

Come experience not only the best French Cuisine in Salt Lake City, but also the finest French pastries and chocolate at its best. We would love to satisfy your sweet tooth!
